Spiritual Meltdown

It was just another day in 1979 for the thousands of Americans living in the suburbs of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Yet, that day would mark the worst commercial nuclear disaster in America, at the Three Miles Island power plant. The trouble began when coolant water was accidentally mixed with superheated steam, causing the plant’s turbine to stop operating. Pressure then began to build, sending radioactive water pouring into the containment building, instead of cooling the reactor. The emergency cooling switch for the reactor was turned on, only to be turned off again in the belief that the accident was very minor. Soon, however, the reactor was deprived of its coolant, damaging the fuel rods, and creating a potential nuclear meltdown. Only through much careful planning and many intense weeks were experts able to put the reactor back to normal temperature levels.
Our soul, in a way, is like a nuclear reactor. When fed with the right ingredients – the Bible, fellow Christians, prayer – it is capable of doing great, powerful things. However, if we deprive ourselves of such things, our soul begins to thirst for help. We grow weak, and even the simplest difficulty in our lives can seem like a massive hurdle. If we continue to ignore the problem, just like the plant workers, the only end result is a complete meltdown. Instead of trying to deal with the trials and tribulations of life alone, let us “lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,” (Hebrews 12:1b KJV) Christ is the “coolant” our souls so desperately need, so if trials come upon you, don’t run from God – run to Him! When we immerse ourselves in Godliness and walk a holy lifestyle, we can overcome any fiery heat the Devil may place on us!
