Adorning the Doctrine

This Sunday evening as Michael and I were discussing the recent success of the website in terms of numbers of visitors, he reminded me of Titus 2:10 which says to adorn the doctrine of God. It had not occurred to me before that this can be applied to our “presence” on the Internet. The word adorn is taken from the same word where we get our English word of “cosmetics” and it means to put in order. As I contemplate the implications of this, I have no doubt that the using access we have to excellent technology to make the church’s web presence as lovely and easy to use as possible is in keeping with this Scripture.

Thankfully we are not dependant on my artistic skills to produce loveliness. There was previous work available to get us started and then the educated eye and talent of my daughter to get us the rest of the way there. So how can you, dear reader, help in further adoring the doctrine we are providing the many seekers out there to find?

I have asked for your participation in providing material in the form of poetry, or short devotionals, or other ponderings, but it’s not realistic to think that there are more than a few who desire to create content in this way. Another way to participate, which will definitely enhance the value of the articles we publish here is to make a comment in the box provided at the end of the article. You don’t even have to put your whole name out there. This type of participation encourages the writer and stimulates other readers to also “get a word in edgewise.”

The whole of Titus 2 tells us the actions that are to be used to adorn the doctrine. Translating these actions into word and thought is as easy as going on the record as a godly and loving Christian and showing the world that our little community is striving to live righteously and practice what we preach. What better way to attract seekers?
