Of Motes and Beams
Matthew 7:3-5 is one of the better known passages among all people of any given religious faith. It paints a vivid picture of a brother ignoring his own shortcomings to shine light on another’s less visible mistakes. Hollywood has unfortunately cast a constant seriousness to the Lord and other Bible characters, but I think the image of a beam hanging out of one brother’s eye trying to work on a speck in the other brother’s eye is an example of Jesus’ ability to engage the audience and give a chuckle here and there to enhance his message.
