Reasons for Giving Thanks to the Lord as Reflected in the Psalms
1. For deliverance (Psalm 18; Psalm 30:1-3; Psalm 34:4; Psalm 34:6; Psalm 34:17-19; Psalm 40:1-3; Psalm 66; Psalm 118:14-17; Psalm 118:23-24)
2. For victory (Psalm 21; Psalm 124; Psalm 126). We can be thankful that Christ has come to defeat our enemies and give us victory (Hebrews 2:12-15).
3. For not despising the weak and afflicted (Psalm 22:24; Psalm 138).
4. For satisfying the needs of the meek (Psalm 22:26).
5. For attending to the cries of those in despair (Psalm 30:7).
6. For bring joy to those in sorrow (Psalm 30:11).
7. For the gift of courage (Psalm 56:4).
8. For changing the course of the enemy (Psalm 56:9).
9. For daily needs (Psalm 65)
10. For being faithful to His promises (Psalm 117:1-2). “Merciful kindness” is from the Hebrew word chesid and is often translated as “mercy” (Psalm 118:29). It is a keyword found throughout the Psalms and is filled with meaning. It could be translated as “covenant loving kindness” as it carries the idea that God’s love will never allow Him to default on His promises.
