The World’s Lowest Landmark

The biblical statement that the love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10) is all too apparent in the decisions of several well-known once-trusted companies.  Company after company seems to be joining the forces of darkness in an effort to sink our society deeper and deeper into the cesspool of sin.  Recently, McDonald’s revealed its intentions to support the homosexual agenda and SSM (“same sex marriage”).  Bill Whitman, a spokesman for the company, said those who try to protest such agendas are motivated by hate – Washington Post article.   Jesus and the apostle Paul would be the first among those charged with being “haters” (Romans 12:9).  Isaiah pronounced a woe upon those who could no longer tell right from wrong (Isaiah 5:20).  Adding to the ever growing list of those who call evil good is Hallmark Cards who just recently came out with their line of SSM cards to appeal to a wider audience hallmark cards news article.

Friends, the Bible plainly teaches against such so-called “alternate lifestyles”.  Homosexuality is called an abomination (Leviticus 18:22).  It is that which “defiles” individuals and nations (Leviticus 18:24).  This word “defile” is from the Hebrew taw-may and means “to be foul” or “to be contaminated” or “to be polluted.”  Homosexuality is that which sickens God (Leviticus 18:25).  Those under the Law of Moses were to be put to death for such activity (Leviticus 20:13; Deuteronomy 23:17).  The New Testament says that that those engaged in such activities have a “reprobate mind” (Romans 1:27), and that those involved in such a lifestyle will not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

The ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrah remind us both of the infectious influence of this sin and of what it will ultimately bring.  Abraham pleaded with the Lord to spare these cities if there were ten righteous souls there.  Sadly, that was not to be.  Even Lot’s family was corrupted by its evil influence (Genesis 19:14; Genesis 19:26; Genesis 19:30-32).  After righteous Lot was safely removed from the city of Sodom, God reigned down fire and brimstone upon Sodom and Gomorrah.  Today, the Dead Sea or the Salt Sea is God’s natural monument against this abomination.  Interestingly, the Dead Sea has the lowest sea level (and therefore it is the lowest landmark) on earth.  The question is how low will we allow our nation to sink?
