Prayer – What a Soul Needs
Are you hesitant to pray for the earthly things you need? Are your habits of prayer a little lax? In a previous article, we examined prayer as an ingredient to reduce stress in the passage Philippians 4:6 – Part of a letter written by Paul in prison with an uncertain future. If we look closely at what stress is – a failure to adapt to change in our environment – we can realize that, short of a medical condition, there is very little reason to have stress in our lives. We have been invited by God numerous times come to him in prayer and lay our burdens at His feet.
James 5:15ff closes the book with instructions to pray: We can pray for ourselves and others when there is sickness, we can pray for each other when there is sin among us. James reminds us of Elijah’s prayer to withhold rain in the 1 Kings 17 account.
Solomon, given the opportunity to pray for anything he desired, prayed honestly for only wisdom. We know from his writings that he was granted that and so much more. God desires that we be ready and willing to serve Him through carrying out His Word, and is ready to provide those who would serve him with the earthly requirements to do so. John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
