May We Never Forget To Prepare
Today is the seventh anniversary of the September 11th tragedies. Although these atrocities
took place seven years ago, many individuals have not forgotten what befell New York City and Washington, D.C. on that day. Images of the World Trade Center towers collapsing and people in the streets being showered with debris still haunt this author. When tragic events such as these occur, one is reminded to be ready always to meet his Maker.
In James 4:14, we are told that we do not know what tomorrow will bring. James further states in this verse, “For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” With this scripture in mind, we should make sure that we are spiritually ready to meet God, for we do not know when we will die.
One might ask “How can I prepare? How can I be ready when my death comes?” God has laid out a plan of salvation to follow for our spiritual preparation. We must hear God’s word and believe it (Romans 10:17), repent of our sins (Luke 13:3), confess that Jesus is the Son of God (Acts 8:37), and be baptized (Acts 22:16; I Peter 3:21). Once we adhere to these steps, we are to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4) and be faithful unto death (Revelation 2:10).
May we always remember to be prepared to go and be with our Father in Heaven. May we do what we can to help others get ready to do so as well.
