Encouragement in Uncertain Times

Several people have recently expressed recently how uncertain they feel regarding the present state of world affairs as well as the failing economy here in the United States.  They have asked in what they can take comfort in this time of uncertainty and instability.  Turning to God’s Word is always one of the best sources of encouragement during both troubled times and when times are good.

In Matthew 6:25, Jesus states that we are to “take no thought for your (our) life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on.”  In verse 26, He mentions how God provides for the birds of the air and how we are much more important than them, and in verses 28-30, He tells how the lilies of the field do not toil; yet, they are arrayed more beautifully than even King Solomon was.  He further explains that we are more precious to God than even the lilies.

In verses 33 and 34 of Matthew 6, Jesus promises us that if we seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness first, all of our earthly needs will be provided.  He exhorts us not to worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself.  We have enough to worry about today without concerning ourselves with what tomorrow will bring.

In conclusion, we should strive to put God first, for in so doing, He will provide for us that which we need.  May we always seek to do God’s will and serve Him as He would have us to do.
