Keys to the Kingdom
This week, my wife Ruth had to go and make some copies of the key to the church building. She came back with an assortment of
different designs – one had a cat, one a panda, and one a dolphin. Although each one had its own decor, each one of the keys was made after the pattern of the original one that Ruth had taken to the locksmith.
In Christianity, we have a pattern that God has set before us to be saved and be faithful to Him. We are to hear the word and believe it (Romans 10:17), repent of our sins (Luke 13:3), confess that Jesus is the Son of God (Acts 8:37), and be baptized for the remission of our sins (Acts 2:38, 8:38; 22:16; 1 Peter 3:21). We then are to live a faithful life to God unto death (Revelation 2:10).
Each person has his or her own “decor” if you will, but all of us have the same pattern that we need to follow in order to be a “key” to Christ’s church. Many different “keys” are offered as the way to open the door to Christ’s kingdom, but only the Bible should be used to pattern those “keys” in the way that they should be formed.
