The Ultimate Gift of Love
As many of us know, yesterday, Febrauary 14, was viewed as the celebration of love and romance – the long-awaited Valentine’s
day. Many couples are showing their love for one another through roses, candy, cards, and other such gifts. The Greeks referred to this type of love as “eros,” meaning romantic or sexual love. With everyone’s minds on the subject of love, what better time than to take a look at the ultimate love shown by our Heavenly Father.
In John 3:16, we read how that “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John continues to explain in verse 17 how God sent his Son into the world not to condemn it but rather to save it. What great love God had for us to send Christ to this earth!
In Romans 5:8, Paul tells how God commended his love towards us – “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” God provided the ultimate show of love by allowing his Son to come to this earth and pay the price for our sins with his own life. Because of Christ’s sacrifice, we have the opportunity to spend eternity in Heaven with God. What better present could one receive!
