It’s that time of year again – the season when people are filing their tax returns and hoping for a refund. For many people, tax season is a busy time (such is the case with my father-in-law who is a tax preparer and bookkeeper), and it is particularly the case during this time of year that some people ask the question: should I pay taxes if the government is using it for ungodly purposes (i.e. to fund the killing of the unborn, to foster laziness among certain groups of people, etc.)? As many of us know, yesterday, Febrauary 14, was viewed as the celebration of love and romance – the long-awaited Valentine’s day. Many couples are showing their love for one another through roses, candy, cards, and other such gifts. The Greeks referred to this type of love as “eros,” meaning romantic or sexual love. Today would have been Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday if he were still alive. Many of us are aware of him as the author of the book Origin of Species. However, how many of us are familiar with Sir Francis Galton (seen in the picture to the right), the father of the ideology known as eugenics?
