Mark wrote his gospel to the Gentile reader emphasizing the things Jesus did rather than what he said. There is urgency about Mark’s writing based on his use of the words straightway, forthwith and other “fast” words throughout the text.

v2-3. Mark opens by quoting Malachi 3:1 Isaiah 40:3

v9-11. Jesus is baptized Matthew 3:3-17
