Mark 4 – Sowing Seeds and Calming the Seas

Mark introduces Jesus’ use of parables to teach. Jesus helps the disciples understand why he uses them. The parable of the growing seed only appears in Mark and describes how the Kingdom will grow as compared to how the Jews thought it might begin. Here is the only place where Jesus is recorded sleeping. Perhaps His power is truly appreciated for the first time here when the disciples ask “What manner of man is this ….?”

v1-25. Parable of the Sower. Matthew 13:1-23

v26-29 Parable of the Growing Seed.

v30-34. The Mustard Seed. Matthew 13:31-32

v35-41. The Tempest Stilled. Matthew 8:23-27, Luke 8:22-25
