As the Pharisees continue to rise up against Jesus, they challenge him for not following the Jewish tradition of ceremonial cleaning. Jesus counters by pointing out the loss of value they make of God’s laws by favoring men’s traditions. Jesus declares all food as clean during this exchange. A Gentile woman approaches Jesus to have her child healed and Jesus uses the opportunity to begin teaching the disciples who he came to earth for. Jesus heals a deaf-mute and attempts to keep it quiet in the region where the residents had recently tried to make him a king.
v1-23. Pharisees and defilement Matthew 15:1-20
v24-30. The Syro-phoenician woman Matthew 15:21-28
