Peter’s opening in this letter states its theme: True Knowledge of Jesus Christ. The readers are reminded of the great and precious promise – theirs because of their obedience.
Peter outlines the eight Christian graces:
- Faith
- Virtue
- Knowledge
- Self Control
- Perseverance
- Godliness
- Brotherly Kindness
- Love
The Christian is to cultivate these things into practice or become barren or fruitless.
Peter mentions his coming death and witnessing Christ’s transfiguration. Peter affirms the authority of the profits and describes the divine-human relationship of inspiration.
