Only Matthew and Luke tell the events of Jesus birth. Luke records for us His birth in a manger, His announcement to the shepherds in a nearby field and their visit and then jumps to age 12 and His visit to Jerusalem and teaching to the priests in the temple.

Luke was a physician and therefore a very methodical and fact oriented person. He did extensive interviews and reading about all of the events on which he writes in this book.
In Chapter 1 Luke records the angel’s appearance to Zacharias and Mary to announce the coming of John the Baptist and Jesus. Zachariah is silenced because of his disbelief.
John jumps in Elisabeth’s womb at the presence of Jesus in Mary’s womb.
Zachariah can speak again after John is born and receives his name.
