Acts 28: Paul Arrives in Rome

While stranded on the Island of Melita, Paul performs some miracles of healing. After about three months they board a ship that had been laid up for the Winter and completed the journey to Rome. Paul remained in Rome for at least two years with freedom to receive visitors and he continued on teaching and converting people. The book ends abruptly but it is presumed that he was eventually acquitted and he continued his travels.

Paul is now on his way to Rome. In this chapter we get a feel of how treacherous travel by ship was. God comes to Paul again to remind him that He promised that Paul would get to Rome and He was going to make good on it. They are shipwrecked and have to swim to the island of Melita.

Paul recounts his story to Agrippa. Agrippa is moved almost to the point of conversion but stops short. Had Paul not appealed to Caesar, he might have been feed at this point.

Festus, while sure of Paul’s innocence had no problem turning him over to the Jews. Paul’s right as a Roman citizen allowed him to appeal to Caesar to avoid certain death, as the Jews intended. Agrippa, wanting to hear the details, goes down to Caesarea to try Paul.
