The disciples must have been feeling a little low based on what they learned in the previous chapter. Jesus continues to speak using some of the best loved words recorded. He spoke concerning:
v1-4 the Father’s house
v5-7 the Way, the Truth and the Life
v8-21 the Comforter
v22-31 the necessity of what He would soon do.

The disciples still contend to work out the offices they will hold in the Kingdom. Jesus washes their feet to drive the point home that He came to serve.
Judas knows Jesus knows he will betray Him, but is able to carry out the deed anyway.

The supper at Bethany was likely the turning point for Judas’ decision to betray Jesus. Jesus rebuked him for being upset about the use of the perfume.
It is not mentioned what the Greeks wanted to talk with Jesus about. Interesting that Jesus’ own people did not believe on Him yet the Greeks traveled great distances to accept and learn from Him.

The raising of Lazarus is the event that brings the Pharisees to the final decision kill Him. There were many Jews that began to believe because of this. The Pharisees knew the result would be to have their nation being taken from them.

One of the most cherished Christian metaphors is Jesus the Shepherd. This metaphor serves the dual role to identify Christ as God in the flesh and the son of David (The shepherd king.)
Some weeks later, Jesus is faced by the Jews and challenged to identify Himself as the Messiah without a doubt.
