A large company of solders were sent to arrest Jesus. They evidently believed this to be a dangerous mission. Jesus by His own announcement knocked the solders back. Surely they understood they He would not be taken against His will.

Peter, who had just drawn a sword in Jesus’ defense, is now actively denying that he knows Jesus. The emotional situation he was in that night must have been more than words could have described.
