The Jews didn’t quite have the correct idea of why Christ came just yet. They were making the mistake of holding up Christ as the executive of the laws given by Moses. The writer here compares Jesus to Moses like the son of the house’s owner is to the servant.

We are reminded of the children of Israel provoking God in their lack of faith and belief. First they wondered in the wilderness for forty years, ultimately never to enter into the Promised Land.

If the teaching that God sent through the angles was punished when they did not follow it, how much worse will our judgment be when we disobey the words of Jesus? Taking great care to follow what we are taught will help us not stray from the truth.

Christ became like humans so He can sympathize with us and be helpful to those of us that love Him. He was subjected to the same human temptations and struggles and can now help us when we come to Him.

Hebrews demonstrates its logical and eloquent message right from the beginning – beauty equal to the opening of Genesis and John in describing the deity of Jesus. Jesus is compared to angels, Moses and the priesthood, His sacrifice being the fulfillment of the law handled by these rather than merely an administrator.

Truth, being a favorite word of John, is mentioned several more times, just like in 1 and 2 John. He encourages Gaius to support the missionaries with what they need to go forward and to avoid those like Diotrephes who are teaching falsely. John emphasizes Christian love and fellowship with his warm address to Gaius.…

This is a quick note most likely to a congregation assuming “elect lady” is being used in a metaphorical sense. The emphasis is on truth and to beware of false teachers that were spreading their doctrine in the name of the apostles. We are not to treat these kinds of teachers with hospitality or otherwise encourage them. Verse 9 is key here – Failing to abide in Christ’s teachings separates us from God.…
