Aged Men and women, young men and women, mothers and servants are to perform at their station with every good virtue, living godly lives. Each should be a pattern or example of good works (v7), zealous of good works (v14), and tomorrow in chapter 3, we’ll see more about good works.

The purpose of the letter to Titus is to set the church in Crete in order. Appointment of godly leadership within the congregation (v4-9) is an important first step to stop the disruption caused by false teachers (v10-16)

Something causing division in the church must have happened as Jude planned to write a different message. (v 3-4) Instead he penned this short and stern warning letter. False teachers are described with blunt epithets by Jude. When the reader is addressed directly, he is told to become mature in their own faith so they can rescue those that suffer from the error of these false teachers.

The Letter ends with exhortations to fellowship with love, kindness goodness and faith in God.

Using the example of all of those heroes that had the endurance to complete the race, let us all put aside the earthly things that will hold us back. We are to use Jesus for our strength when times get tough.

The writer compares the struggles we face to a child being disciplined by his father. Fathers discipline their children out of love.

Avoid things that might cause sinfulness. These things can sneak into one’s life and cause him to be lost.
