A Good Habit

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2: 15 KJV)

Are you a daily Bible reader?  How much time do you spend each day reading the Bible? An hour?  Half hour?  Five minutes?  A minute?  No time?

Woodrow Wilson once said, “A man has deprived himself of the best there is in the world who has deprived himself of a knowledge of the Bible.”  A man who does not read God’s Word has no advantage over the man who cannot read.

Tabitha Day This Saturday (9/24)

As we make final preparations and pray upon our upcoming Tabitha Day, (aka Dorcas Day – from Acts 9:36) here are a few passages to think on this week:

The church’s responsibility: Galatians 6:10

In context with turning the other cheek: Matthew 5:42

The Great Banquet: Luke 14:12-14

How the Lord views giving to the poor: Proverbs 19:17, Psalm 41:1, Matthew 5:7

How Cornelius got God’s attention: Acts 10:1-6

Of course the story of the namesake of our event: Acts 9:36-42

Motes and Beams

Jesus uses the image of a beam hanging out of one brother’s eye while trying to remove a speck in another’s eye as a humorous impossibility. The Master Teacher sure could get an audience’s attention!

Take for example Esther, and the opportunity she seized to save her people from destruction by performing a risky action. Her cousin Mordecai had asked her to plead with the…

Does God Care About the Little Things I Do?

Many of us have heard the cliché, “Little things mean a lot,” but do we really believe that? Do we truly realize how important little things that we do can be?

In Proverbs 30:24-28, King Solomon mentions four creatures (i.e. ant, coney, locust, and spider) that we view as being small and insignificant; yet, in God’s sight, they are considered exceedingly wise.  The Bible speaks of a town just a few miles south of Jerusalem known as “the house of bread” or Bethlehem that was among the smallest and most insignificant towns in Israel but from it was born the…
